Coronary Angioplasty and Stenting cost in India

Accredited hospitals in India quote $2,600 – $6,200 as an inpatient package for this procedure. Where you sit in that band depends on the hospital, the surgeon, the implant or drug protocol and the room category you choose.

Indicative coronary angioplasty and stenting package cost by country, in US dollars. Figures are hospital estimates collated for comparison, not quotations.
CountryIndicative package range (USD)
India$2,600 – $6,200
Turkey$6,000 – $10,000
United Arab Emirates$12,000 – $20,000
United Kingdom (private)$11,000 – $18,000
United States$20,000 – $40,000

What the procedure involves

Percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) opens a narrowed coronary artery with a balloon and then holds it open with a stent, most often placed through the radial artery at the wrist. It is the standard treatment for single or double-vessel disease and for heart attacks presenting within the treatment window, where speed to the catheter lab is the strongest predictor of outcome.

The main cost driver is the stent itself. A bare-metal stent is now rarely used; the practical choice is between a second-generation drug-eluting stent and, in selected diffuse or calcified disease, a bioresorbable scaffold. The number of stents and vessels treated is confirmed on angiography and stated on the final invoice, not assumed at quotation stage.

What the package includes and excludes

Typically included

  • Surgeon, anaesthetist and assisting team fees
  • Operating theatre and recovery-room charges
  • Stated number of ICU and ward days in the quoted room category
  • Routine pre-operative investigations and anaesthetic clearance
  • Medicines, consumables and dressings during admission
  • Daily inpatient physiotherapy where clinically indicated
  • One post-discharge review with the operating surgeon
  • Airport pickup, interpreter support and a named case manager
  • Diagnostic angiography and one or two standard drug-eluting stents as quoted
  • Cardiac monitoring for the stay and a pre-discharge ECG

Not included

  • Flights, visa fees and accommodation outside the hospital
  • Extended ICU or ward stay beyond the quoted days
  • Blood and blood products, if required
  • Management of complications and unplanned re-operation
  • Treatment of unrelated pre-existing conditions found during workup
  • Medicines and investigations after discharge
  • Additional stents beyond the quoted number if more vessels need treatment
  • Intravascular ultrasound or rotational atherectomy for heavily calcified lesions

Recovery and trip timeline

  1. Day 0

Angiography and stenting through the wrist, usually under local anaesthesia with sedation.

  2. Day 1

Wrist band removed, mobilisation, discharge once the puncture site is stable.

  3. Week 1

Dual antiplatelet therapy started; light activity only, no heavy lifting.

  4. Week 2

Wound review, medication reconciliation, fit-to-fly assessment.

  5. Month 1–3

Cardiac rehabilitation and gradual return to normal activity under antiplatelet cover.

What drives a good outcome

  • Correct patient selection — PCI is not a substitute for bypass in left main or diffuse triple-vessel disease.
  • Strict adherence to dual antiplatelet therapy, since early stopping is the leading cause of stent thrombosis.
  • Radial rather than femoral access, which reduces bleeding and speeds mobilisation.
  • Risk factor control after the procedure: lipids, blood pressure, glucose and smoking cessation.
