How treatment in India works, step by step

No stage of this process should be a surprise. Below is exactly what happens between your first message and your flight home, including who decides what and where the money goes. A named case manager replies within 24 hours, every day of the week.

  1. 1. Share the case

    Day 0

Send the diagnosis, recent reports and scans by WhatsApp, email or the enquiry form. If reports are missing we tell you exactly which ones the hospital will need before it can respond.

    • Doctor's letter or discharge summary
    • Recent imaging (CT, MRI, angiography, X-ray) as images or a report
    • Blood work from the last three months where relevant
    • Passport bio-page for the visa invitation, later in the process
  2. 2. Medical opinion

    Day 1–2

Your file goes to the relevant department at two or three accredited hospitals. Each returns a written opinion: whether the proposed treatment is appropriate, what alternatives exist and what workup is needed on arrival.

    • Written opinion from a named consultant
    • Alternative approaches where more than one is reasonable
    • Any tests that must be repeated in India, and why
  3. 3. Itemised estimate

    Day 2–3

You receive the hospital's own package estimate, itemised, with the room category, number of ICU and ward days and the exclusions stated in writing. We do not mark up hospital pricing.

    • Package scope, inclusions and exclusions in writing
    • Cost of likely add-ons, such as extra ICU days
    • Indicative living costs for the accompanying attendant
  4. 4. Visa and travel

    Week 1–3

The hospital issues an invitation letter for the Indian medical visa. Attendants travel on a medical-attendant visa. We book airport pickup, guest-house or serviced apartment stay and an interpreter in your language.

    • Hospital invitation letter for the visa application
    • Medical-attendant visas for up to two companions
    • Airport pickup, SIM card and currency guidance on arrival
  5. 5. Treatment

    In India

A case manager meets you at the hospital, walks you through admission and stays reachable throughout. Interpretation is arranged for every consultation, consent discussion and discharge briefing.

    • Assistance at registration, admission and billing
    • Interpretation for consent and discharge instructions
    • Daily contact with your family at home if you wish
  6. 6. Discharge and follow-up

    After discharge

You leave with a discharge summary, medication plan, implant card where applicable and a written fit-to-fly certificate. Remote follow-up with the treating consultant is arranged for the first months at home.

    • Fit-to-fly clearance from the treating surgeon
    • Structured discharge summary for your doctor at home
    • Teleconsultation follow-up with the treating team
