What the procedure involves
An IVF cycle involves ovarian stimulation for around ten to twelve days, egg retrieval under short sedation, fertilisation in the laboratory (by ICSI where sperm quality requires it), embryo culture to blastocyst stage and transfer of one or two embryos, with surplus embryos frozen.
In India a complete cycle including medication typically costs a quarter of Gulf or Western pricing. The main variables are whether ICSI is needed, whether preimplantation genetic testing is performed, medication dose (which rises with age and lower ovarian reserve) and whether donor gametes are used. Be cautious of any clinic quoting a headline price that excludes drugs — medication is a third of the true cost.
